7 Mistakes You should Not Commit on Facebook

There are lot of information and to-do list available on internet about Facebook marketing; what all needs to be done on Facebook profile and the brand page. As an e-commerce/m-commerce entrepreneur and digital media marketing professional, I discovered a not to -do list of Facebook marketing from my own experience.  These things are as follows:
1.       Waiting for extremely superlative original content for upload on your Facebook brand page: I am fan of Dan Brown want to read his every novel. But so far I have been able to read only five, because he has written only those many novels. A writer like him could write five books in 15 years. He also could not write 30 books in 15 years. What I mean to say that churning out exceedingly superlative content everyday or may every hour is just not possible.  So, be realistic and ask questions, share jokes, trivia, quotes, facts, video, photos; of course the relevant one, but don’t wait for the perfect one to happen.
2.       Treat audience as mass: People who are on internet, are educated lot and want to be respected. You can’t take them as mass of meat with no brain. If you are doing it then you are inviting problem for yourself. Respect your audience’s intellect and engage them in your communication plan. Beauty of digital platform is that you can identify your influencer and use them as a tool to promote your product or services at free of cost, unlike the traditional form of media.

3.        Treat your online marketing plan as separate activity : Online marketing is just a new way of communicating with your target audience, which is added with one more word ‘engagement’; nothing else. It is not some space ship to reach Mars. So, don’t separate it from your integrated marketing plan, whose objective is to inform and educate the customer, bring them to retailer to buy your product or services and bring them back again to buy the same or any new product or services you are offering.
4.       Be Mechanical and monotonous, not human: You can ill afford to be mechanical and monotonous. I have interacted with many people, who believe that if they move even a bit away from their perceived expertise area, then audience will start questioning their expertise. Many people are doing so also. Again, if you are doing it, do it to bring problem for yourself. It is like treating your audience as mass of meat, which fortunately they are not. If you will keep on sharing same type of content every day, your audience will get bored of you very soon. After all, you also don’t eat pasta or pizza every day. So, be human, have fun. Yes, don’t cross the limit and maintain balance between your human and professional face on Facebook.

5.       Selling your product or services on Facebook: Then why we create Facebook brand page, if we should not sale our product from there. Answer is; it is not a place to sell, but to tell that why and where to buy your product and how to use it for customer’s own benefit. If your product or services are that good, few of your audience may want to buy it then and there, you should have payment option also built in there. But make your product and communication so appealing first that it makes your audience becomes your customer then and there. Till that time, keep telling good things and listening good and bad things.
6.       Keep telling and not listening: Online medium is for conversation and not for speaking only. If you have to do so, then go to national TV or radio; don’t be in online sphere.
7.        Spam: Hurray; your team is excellent bunch of writers and they are churning out hundreds of one liner every day. If you are planning to be bequeath this treasure of information every minute to your audience, then believe me, you will end up having no audience in no time. Let them take the breath, be human, live their life and enjoy your wisdom as they are doing other things of life.
