How to connect with your audience with blog

Everybody on social media sphere knows, writes and tries to educate people that social media is not about one way communication, it is not about disruption, but it is about providing content transparently to end users, it is about engagement, it is about participation. But the biggest question is how to let people participate in your content. Does your interest really excite people for the reason it excites you. Social media excites me for the reason of it’s reach and impact on today’s life, but can I confidently say that my contact group are here for the same reason. Moreover, as a starter, do I have the luxury to pick and choose my group; I don’t think so. In fact nobody on social media has got this luxury unless and until he or she has already built reputation from some other field. Every other day we have analysts releasing data about each site’s user base, revenues, investment and success stories but from the user’s perspective, there is very limited number of success stories.  Like all resolutions for better health and good habits, which unfortunately falls flat soon after, people as well as companies start blog with same vigour but abandons it halfway or even before that.  According to a Tachnorati survey in 2008, blog abandonment rate is 95%. Reasons for this abandonment are many, like the content we choose, flow of our blog, it’s scheduling to the time it is going to take to get noticed and succeed. But as the marketers are shifting their budget from traditional media channels to social and other forms of digital media, this space is worth fighting for. While taking care of other action plans, content and approach to reach the audience becomes very crucial. Following pointers may help in developing a good content and reach the target audience through blogs:
1)      Understand your audience for whom you are writing: While writing the blog, you must be having publishing tool and it’s target audience in mind. What matters most is that your blog should cover daily rumblings of your target audience; otherwise they will read it some other day, when they will have time for intellectual illumination and that day may or may not come. While you would be waiting for the response, the delay from your audience part in doing so may taste your patience. So, while blog is showing your mastery over the subject matter, it is also the tool to add value to your audience’s life. It must be an instant hit with them to make them read it without any delay.
2)      How to make it relevant- Food, Beauty, Sports, Movie, Music, Politics, Religion, Employment, Relationship and Money, though order may vary evokes instantaneous response. It does not mean we should write blog on only these topics, but what it means is while writing blogs, we should incorporate examples and instances from these subjects, because they are anyway part of our daily life and are capable of demanding audience attention. Moreover, words related to these should be keywords also, which will make it’s searchability easier.
3)      Make your message crisp and creative: While writing blogs, numbers and correct representation of fact is absolute necessary because it lends authenticity, but one should not make it look like balance sheet written in words. The content should be crisp, coherent and creative. It keep the audience glued to your subject matter. A bland message will almost be like text book, which nobody will be interested to read.
4)      Make it humorous; make everyone smile: In any part of the world, nothing strikes better chord then humour. A good humour will help you win over many friends. This rule applies in writing blog also. Everything has to be good and bring smile on everybody’s face. You may call it being optimistic and positive or may call it escapist behaviour, but this is what people are. But while doing so, one thing has to be kept in mind that your humour should not be satirical, because everybody many people love it. This world is so diverse. Humour for one may turn out to be insult for another.
5)      Keep your message Simple and Stupid: Creativity bug should not bite you so hard that your message bounces over the head of many. It has to be simple to understand; otherwise the meaning will be lost completely.
6)      While using photo or video, see that if any movie or music one may carry your message: This is something Indian audience understands the best. If it is not possible to use any movie or music related video or picture, then try to make your video a reflection of that. It will connect your audience to your message instantaneously. Even devotional songs are getting sung on filmy music tunes out here to catch the instant attention.
I have been looking for the ways to write a winning blog. I thought of sharing it with you because I presume I have got it after so much of head breaking. Your inputs will help me to make it more relevant and useful. Keep blogging, keep winning friends.
